The Commonwealth Bricoleurs are six graduate students from Virginia
Commonwealth University’s Department of Sculpture and Extended Media. This
group of artists – Sami Ben Larbi, Lily Cox-Richard, David Grainger, Eli
Kessler, Jesse Robinson and James Sham – make works ranging from sculpture to
performance, sound installation, video and painting. The Commonwealth
Bricoleurs have recently shown at University of Virginia’s Off Grounds
Gallery, Charlottesville VA and at Metro Space Gallery in Richmond VA.
A “Bricoleur” invents his or her own strategies for using existing materials
(be they physical, intellectual, or cultural) in a creative, resourceful,
and original way.
